Watercolors by Marcia Reilly
Born and raised in the suburbs of Boston, I have attended numerous classes but have no formal degree; I am self taught in many of my techniques. I started by sketching with graphite-pencil in sketchbooks. My earliest works were based on geometrics. I grew to add, pen and watercolor works at local art shows at Munson-Williams-Procter Institute in Utica, New York.
My life has taken me on an unplanned path.
I focus on using watercolors to express my artistic message. I prefer to create small paintings but I am expanding to larger canvasses.
My abstract-impressionism style has a direct correlation to how I see and experience the world. My life's trajectory was suddenly altered when I was diagnosed with a serious mental illness late in my high school years.
God has a played a preeminent part in stabilizing my life and the spiritual symbols seen throughout my works are an important theme. I have a love of abstract impressionism as my medium because it reflects my life's experiences of dealing with my "invisible" disability: bi-polar/schizophrenia. The instability I have experienced in managing my life has profoundly affected how I create my images.
